The Jamaica Lacrosse Alumni Foundation (“JLAF”) proudly presents the 2008 JLAF Summer Lacrosse Camp. This is our first annual summer camp, open to boys and girls of all ages and skill levels. We will hold one single week session from July 21 through July 25, 2008. The JLAF Summer Lacrosse Camp is open for boys and girls of any skill level, ages 5-17. Deadline for registration is July 14, 2008. The registration fee is $199. JLAF Campers will receive teaching from College and Club professionals who have over 150 years of combined lacrosse experience. Our camp offers instructional level teaching on the basics of lacrosse and for those with a little more experience we hold challenging exercises to further develop the athlete’s game. Campers will receive a daily review of their abilities and receive a final scorecard/assessment sheet.

Our Lacrosse Camp is a day camp, meaning that parents will need to drop off their children by 9:00am and pick them up no later than 3:30pm. A late fee of $10 will be imposed for any camper picked up after 3:30pm. Please do not arrive any earlier than 8:30am daily as counselors will not be there. Campers will receive daily am and pm snacks and lunch will be served each day. Additional snacks and beverages can be purchased that day by campers and we will have a Camp store for any Lacrosse purchases. Campers will also receive a reversible JLAF jersey, a one year subscription to Lacrosse magazine and other gifts from JLAF.

2008 Charitable Lacrosse Tournament:

What an exciting day of Lacrosse! The Jamaica Lacrosse Alumni Foundation held its second annual Lacrosse Reunion tournament on May 17, 2008. The round robin tournament started at 12:00 noon and featured four competitive teams; Jamaica Alumni, Queens College Alumni, CCNY and Bucks, Pennsylvania Lacrosse Club. After some great tournament play the final two teams, Queens Alumni and CCNY played for the championship and once again CCNY came out on top as champs. They were presented with the first annual JLAF Champions trophy award. This perpetual trophy will be presented each year to the Champions of the event and the Champions will have their team name engraved on the trophy base.

During our event, the first annual JLAF George Baron award for Lacrosse Excellence was presented to George Baron’s son to honor a great father, friend and mentor who touched so many lives. This annual award will be presented to a member of the Lacrosse community, honoring achievements in community lacrosse programs and promoting the game of lacrosse in the NY Public Schools system. We as Directors are honored with the distinction of going through the candidate names and choosing a worthy recipient.

The remainder of the day saw an excellent team of helpers assisting in various functions during the event. We thank everyone who helped support our event including those that worked the front gate admission area, the cooks and prep people and the silent auction staff. Without you we could not have had an outstanding event. Our charitable event took in over $7,000 from March through May 17th and further donations are needed to pursue our foundations goals.

Past Events - 2007 Lacrosse Reunion:

Former Jamaica player alumni with family and friends enjoyed warm weather, great food and drinks and then took in an exciting game of Lacrosse that pitted Jamaica against CCNY Lacrosse club. Our alumni played hard but with no practice and aging bodies (including poor eyesight) they were no match against an organized squad of young players. Our alumni fell 6-3 against CCNY. These young men from CCNY were very courteous guests and we were very fortunate that George Baron stepped in and arranged the challenge as our initial alumni response was lackluster at best.

One very important, tear filled, post match event was the award ceremony honoring Mr. Glenn our coach, mentor and friend. The Foundation presented Mrs. Glenn with a crystal award honoring her husband and our fallen former coach. Mr. Glenn's sons thanked the Foundation and former Jamaica Alumni for the honor and George Baron, fighting back tears, expressed his admiration for his friend of 40 years.

The JLA foundation raised over $4,500 through admission fees, donations and the silent auction. We are still receiving donations and look forward in reaching our goal of $10,000 for this event. We will add a "Pay Online" option in the next few weeks so making donations will be a much easier process. Please check out our membership program in a few weeks as you can now become a member of the JLA Foundation. This will entitle you to great savings on merchandise and event fees as well as being the first to know about future events. Yes, the Foundation is planning on having another event this year so please check this site regularly for the location, date and time of the event.

Note: Our Social get together on Friday, May 25th was a great success as well. There were 20 plus alumni and George Baron made an appearance. This is a great way for player alumni to gather around and talk about old times and catch up with each others personal lives. It provides a fabulous avenue to discuss the foundation's goals and many former players were excited to hear what we are trying to accomplish and want to assist in the process. Oh yeah, there were plenty of drinks as well.
